Have any of you heard her music yet? She has an incredible voice, try to think of the first time you heard Bjork. She plays harp and has quite a folky sound, and already this year she has toured with Will Oldham and Cat Power with a bright future ahead of her. You can check out some of her tracks form http://www.walnutwhales.com and her album the milk-eyed mender is out now.
There's an article about her in this month's Uncut, but I hadn't heard any of her music. Are the MP3s on her site typical of what is on the album? Based on the three tracks available for download I would say that her voice is interesting, unusual perhaps, but not incredible. I can see the Bjork thing, kind of like Bjork without the volume. Also the article describes her harp melodies as 'lithe and playful', which I didn't get from the downloads either.
If you are into harpists then check out Sileas (it's Scots Gaelic, pronounced shee-laish), a very good female duo that have been around for ages. The singing is mostly in Gaelic and is excellent from what I can remember - I've only ever seen them live at festivals. Apparently on the latest album they do a cover of Bill Withers' 'Ain't No Sunshine', which sounds like it could be very interesting...
im not really too big on my hapr playing, but after hearing comparisons to bjork and cat power(dont agree with it but its what pushed me to download her tracks) i had to look her up. i would be a little disappointed if the rest of the album doesn't vary much in tone, but i have high hopes. ill post my impressions when i get it later this week
