The Shins are among the top 5 greatest bands of this decade.

Btw I'd recommend Isolation Years here too .
Edit: I did find some Zita Swoon now; nice - if they got promoted they could be as big as the Killers, and better

The Killers? They aren't anything like them, right? But yeah the promotion thing is a bit difficult if you come from a country as small and unexotic as Belgium... Although I believe that Stef (bandleader) doesn't really wants to be as big as his former bandmates dEUS. Prefers to do theatre stuff now and then too. But yeah they're good. Moondog Jr.'s Everyday I Wear a Black Greasy Feather on My Hat is really good too. It's the same band, but then (goofball jazz/avant garde legend) Moondog (or rather his management) threatened to sue them if they didn't change their name. They go from Waitsesque blues stuff to more dancey stuff (which you've heard probably) and lately it's again a bit more Waits, but on the quieter sight. The last record (and live album) misses a bit of the former spice, but in all its more adult cosiness it's still pretty good.

^^Similar in that they are equally accesible.
I'll check Moondog Jr. soon too.

Maybe they aren't anything alike, I am reminded of pink floyd. In my head i connect songs like Sphagnum Esplande, Saint Simon, Black Wave, ect., songs that are darker, and have heavier(for lack of a better word) lyrics, to songs like echoes, time, or astronomy domine. They both play around with the music, melodies, harmonies, I don't know the correct term for it but it's like a psychedelic, creepy sound. I hope that makes sense. Ans as far as bands like that go, earlier "Yes" songs are among my favorites. Please correct all my mistakes so i can get my point across.

Be warned City of Daughters is VERY hard to find, it's worth the effort though.
Also you might want to check out some Pavement. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Brighten the Corners are their most Shin-y albums I reckon.
NMH are brilliant, but they hardly sound like the Shins. Check out In The Aeroplane Over The Sea anyway, there's nothing quite like it.

Good call..
Also, Band of Horses.
And is it just me, or is pretty much everything coming out of Sub Pop now sounding more and more like The Shins?
