The ramones had heeps of pop influence many of their songs are basically pop punk songs, listen to beat on the brat, my brain is hanging upside down, were a happy family, howling at the moon, the KKK took my baby away, blitzkreig bop, crummy stuff etc etc!! The band did a cover of needle and pins, how can that not be pop punk? Once again you are thinking that pop punk is only the shit that is being done today. There was some good pop punk before the big business of record companies stuffed it up.

and how do you figure that oi started off US punk ??

do you not think i know this? half of the pictures you see of either band are with bandmates from the opposite band. and besides, who the fuck cares who started it? And how the fuck did you get that brit oi started off yank punk....? tanjello already clarified the whole pop-punk business thing, it wasnt shitted on by the record label, it kicked ass, all im saying was it definantly had pop influence, which it did, ill argue that shit to my grave the point still remains that both bands fucking kick ass, can we agree on that?

I don't even know why people are considering the Sex Pistols as an option, I don't even think they were still together when the film was made

fuck thats a good point.

i only said the sex pistols coz they fucking rock. i on;y reacted to everyone calling em pop punk because i refuse to think that something so fucking good in any way spawned the worst fucking bands ever (simple plan NFG etc!! BAH!!). the comment about british oi starting em off was false. i have tunnel vision when it comes to the sex pistols you must understand this
