You also forget Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream...and I would hardly say that Krautrock required excellent musicianship...actually, I'd say most Krautrock bands were damned shitty musicians...just really creative
Yeah, I just automatically think of Can and Neu when I think of krautrock, I forget how many bands there actualy were. I never really count Kraftwerk either, they seem to have carved out a little genre of their own in the mid '70s.

As for a definition of 'industrial' music, I'd only really count the very early stuff, such as TG, SPK, Whitehouse and Monte Cazazza. Possibly early Clock DVA as well. What the rest should be grouped under, I've no idea, you could probably create another 50 genres. It's strange that I should love so much of it, saying I don't really see much of a link to those early bands.

Are there many bands going today, who still get burdened with an 'industrial' tag, not counting the likes of KMFDM and Puppy, who've been around for years?

No they're an industrial influenced rock band. Doesn't make them industrial.

Just as while Busted are influenced by punk it doesn't make them a punk band.

Although, one could claim that Throbbing Gristle is the only true Industrial band...as they pretty much coined the term...

As far as I know, it was TG, as they were the first to describe their music as "Industrial" and also w/ the formation of the label "Industrial Records":

...also, I was noticing that my avatar would fit quite well in your latrine-like figure

I'm sad to say that I haven't even heard half of those bands. Only 3 in fact, Einsturzende Neubauten, Skinny Puppy and Throbbing Gristle. But if I had to choose between only those three I would choose TG. They just seem the "coolest" to me and while the both SP and EN both have a great sound, TG has many different sounds and that just is more fun to listen to for me

If we're getting really picky, it should apply to Monte Cazazza, as he really invented the term.

... how 'bout LAIBACH?

(I have to agree with Josh, errr Equinox, that pretty much any Stephen Stapelton - David Tibet project ... i.e things like C93 and NWW generally fall more into a dark-folk sorta category... but then again I kinda hate categories... errrr at least I won't categorically deny it... )

what about Bjork?

Obviously, I'm just nowhere near as into industrial as you are, DF...great link though, I'd always assumed Gennesis or one of the members of TG came up with the term for the label, thanks for the clarification!
