Black Sabbath

I think Sabbath established 'the sound' and had good music, no doubt. Metallica just took it to an entirely different level though, so much so that they were, and are, just greater.

As much as I think that Metallica Pre black album is off the charts amazing, but they would never have been there if it wasn't for Sabbath and a few others that paved the road to the Metal Genre so Sabbath wins my vote for that reason alone.

metalica is a little better. sabbath is very close though.
