I prefer Doom over Thrash, so I chose Black Sabbath. Also ''Black Sabbath'' was the first Metal album I listened to.

Tanjello, one other aspect of both bands that should be mentioned is that they both went on WAY WAY past their prime, and sadly still are.

Having seen METALLICA with Cliff a couple of times, I can attest to the fact that they were truly gods once.

But, SABBATH is like the beginning and the end of all heavy music to me, so its hard for me to compare them.

What about the tons of crap they put out after breaking up with Ozzy?

I went with Sabbath, I just like that old school sound they had, I love some Metallica but Sabbath is just one of my all time favorties.

What makes this a great comparison is that this is one of the few cases where a newer band actually may have equalled or surpassed a founding father in the genre. It is debatable of course, but it's nice to see a current band hold their own against a band from the golden age of rock.

I think Metallica's stock will rise when they retire and we can no longer take for granted a Metallica show coming to our town soon. Sure they made a stinker in St. Anger, but just about all great bands have bad albums. Their influence is indisputable, and they have only been around since the 80's. We have had since the 60's to stew over Sabbath. Give the grape juice some time to age and you have a first class bottle of wine eventually.

That's what I mean. They're just as guilty as METALLICA, although I did like the Dio-era a lot as well as the Tony Martin era (But neither held a candle to those first 6 albums or so)
