The Grateful Dead Thread

dude.
like, please take your shoes off while you're in this thread. kay?
this is like, the Grateful Dead thread and I want it to be all mellow, dig?

For about a week I've been digging out all my old Dead stuff what I still have. I've always liked them more or less. They have their own sound and they jam just so. But, suddenly, I just can't get enough of these guys.

That big sloppy country-ish sound that just hobbles along until you think it's gonna fall apart and then they all snap into place and groove along EVER so nicely.

Mostly, I'm enjoying live stuff and a Best Of I have.

Where do you stand (in your bare feet) on the subject of The Grateful Dead??

I must've seen 'em 10 or 12 times in the seventies. I'm not sure that anybody who didn't see them live can appreciate how good they were. The records are a pale reflection. Individually, they were not the most gifted players...but they had a chemistry together and WITH an audience that was amazing and unique.

I saw them once many moons ago and I have about ten live tapes... As far as their studio stuff, I much prefer the very first few albums of hippie psychedelic music as compared to the Workingman's Dead and beyond countryish rock...

Overall I think of them as a pretty darn good rock band... But not the rock gods some Dead Heads and neo-Dead Heads think...

They would rank in my all-time favorite top 75 in the history of rock music...

It is fascinating how they cultivated such a huge fan base where other bands as good (if not better, like Quicksilver) are not in the same class (as far as fan base)...

Oh, and I really dig that freaky hippie dance all the hippie girls did at their live shows...

It put me in a trance as much as the music and drugs did...

I don't get why you always make it 75. I mean 5, 7, 10, 13, 20, 25, 50, 100, 500, 666.... all I can understand, but 75????

I want to hear that 75 Syd, I'm sure it'll be rad. And ew the country music is irritating, but I dig their self-titled cd a lot. Trippy dippy Viola Lee Blues and Cream Puff War are cool

Please don't make me actually post it... It would take so long and I'm in a lazy mood today...
