music in new video

Hi, I'm making a film and I was wondering if puting copyrighted music in it is illegal.
I want to use some Cradle of Filth, some Immortal, Dimension Zero, Nirvana etc..
Do I have to get a permission? I Will put the used music in the end credits if neccesary.

I'm not sure either, but you could send an e-mail to their record compagny, they will probably help you.

I'm sure it's forbidden. If you want to play a song to more than a certain number of people, you have to pay, so I think this is the same.

I'd say It's safe if you're doing it for your own purposes. If you're doing it with your friends, as a project sort of a thing. But once you start public viewings and trying to make money off of it, it's a very bad idea.

What I do for my personal stuff is use all my music from one album, that way in the credits you can plug their product and they can't mind that too much.

yes, do it for your own purposes, as said, and as long as you don't try to manufacture or distribute the video in any way, there shouldn't be any problem. We tape copywritten shows via tv/satellite all the time, but as it states, we cannot use it for any type of distribution. Is this film for domestic release or just a project? If it is for commercial purposes, yes, you must ask permission, and then site their name in the credits
