Awww man...
The "Steady Ups - Better Days" nearly makes me cry now. Right after i messed up my a-levels, and it feels like the end of the world, this song was really poignant all of a sudden.

"When i was a little boy, my mama said son you can be what you want to be,
she said son dont be afraid to open doors, and see what you can see,
she said dont be afraid to explore,
she said live your life today,
you can make it if you try, ill try ill try,
go on and live your life, go on and live your life my child, go on and live your life"

It hurt because i felt like i didnt try, i wasted the chance. The song has a happy ending though, because the singer does exactly what his mum told him, and trys new things and explores. At the time and still today, just struck a chord. It reminded me of my mum as well, who always says she didnt care what i do, as long as im happy and doing what i want to do.

Right, life changing music huh?

Well, first up, it's going to be

Mr. Oizo - Flat beat : What did this tune do for me? Well, after seeing the Levi ads all those years ago, it showed my that buying music was very easy and didn't require much effort; before buying the Flat Beat single I had very much seen buying and discovering music as a difficult and tiring thing to do. The B-Side, 'Monday Massacre', is pretty good, in some respects better than Flat Beat, which is not much of a compliment I know...

Cex - First For Wounds : quite a recent tune, 2001 i think. It was the track that got me into glitchy, crunchy percussion, and nailed on the head the fact that electronica is one of my favourite music genres. Which is enhanced by...

Aphex Twin - Windowlicker : when I heard this first, I think it was 2001, it stood out as a fact that music doesn't need to follow the typical pattern of chorus-melody-etc. Although now I know that this track actually has a very defined system, from a slow start to a climax, it seemed to redifine my perspective on a track's 'topology'.

The Beatles - Lady Madonna : The single that intorduced me to the Bs. Although I had heard their music before, it's hard not to hear the Bs at some point, I had never really listened. Lady Madonna turned me from 'just a listener' to a fan. Now I like all sorts of Beatles, and enjoy even more the lesser known stuff they did (to the regular Joe Schmoes) like Helter Skelter and Taxman.

oh, there's more, only I have ran out of stem to write. But the Smiths, Radiohead, Jim O'Rourke, Four Tet and Prodigy all feature....
