Good choices t33, I never get tired of Sailing. Actually I emailed Christopher Cross one time to see if he had any guitar tab on the song. He said that he hadn't thought to do that but he was considering it.
Just a suggestion to everyone: Let us know 'why' the songs changed your life. It's nice knowing what songs were significant, but the story is so much more interesting.

k... i've already posted the long version of jungle man but the short version is...
i was 14... doing homework on the living room floor at my aunts... the video came up on the tv... it broke my head... it was the coolest thing i'd ever heard or seen... it's the song that made me want to play music...
chocolate lovely just really hit me when i first heard it... i was getting a drive home with a friend and it came on the radio (late night cbc radio2).... i forced my friend to take random detours so i could find out who it was... it's what first got me into electronic jazz

I can only think of two right now...
People are People - depeche mode
this song made me realize that a band doesn't have to have a guitar/bass/drum set up. and also, a band/singer doesn't have to sing about cheesy love about cheesy love. and I realized that I didn't have to listen to those mid-tempo or slow tempo cheesy ass canto-pop shit! I was free, free from cheesy shit! here i come, sample-based electronic music!
EDIT: this is also the song that made me wanna learn how to play a synth but i never did.
Jet'aime - Serge Gainsborough
my parents had this vinyl in their music collection. I was curious and listened to it when I was about 12 or 13. since it was sung/moaned in french, I didn't really know what the lyrics meant. but of course, it was obvious enough for me to figure out the song was about sex. so I figured that since my parents had a song like that, sex must be a pretty normal thing.

The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin - Got me into rock and roll. Until hearing that song I was a kid listening to top 40.
Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads - Until this song I pretty much only liked Classic hard and heavy rock and roll. Talking Heads helped me get into new wave/alternative music.
Gardening At Night - First R.E.M. song I heard. Loved the group from that first moment. Probably the first person in Hawaii to play it on the radio since I was the Music Director for the college radio station and I debuted it and I know no one else played it except us.
Winter by Tori Amos - First time I heard that song it really touched me. Made me feel a little closer to my dad who had passed away by then and it just seems to hold special meaning for me everytime I hear it.
B Movie by Gil Scott Heron - Got me politically motivated. Never really thought much about getting involved politically cause I was very jaded even back in college. Heard that song and decided I had to get involved.

I just can't narrow it down to just 5.
Black Sabbath - N.I.B.
Venom - Black Metal
Bathory - Enter the eternal fire
Darkthrone - The Pagan Winter
Mercyful Fate - The Oath
King Diamond - Charon
Hedningarna - Räven
Isengard - Vinterskugge
Satyricon - Hvite Krists død
Falkenbach - Into the ardent awaited land
Kraftwerk - Trans- Europe Express
Throbbing Gristle - Somthing came over me
I think that's enough, even though I thought of some more .

Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana-completely changed my musical preferences...for the better
Burden in My Hand by Soundgarden-for some reason...this song gives me a near natural high when I listen to it and remember the first time I heard it...I think I was in a really good mood when I listened to it for the first time
Tommy the Cat by Primus-made me realize if I want to create and peform music..it is just fine to get a little crazy while making it
Nottingham Lace by Buckethead-made me try harder to better myself as a guitarist
Bleed Together by Soundgarden-....I've wasted hours of my life listening to it

They're Coming to Take me away Ha Ha! by Napoleon the XXIV
I remember hearing this before anybody in the house was awake on a big mahogany tube radio thing. It warped me for life. I truly think my interest in lots of things started that morning.
Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys
another boring radio memory. This one was one of those little Japanese Transistor Radio jobs with the little earphone and the strange little vinyl carrying case with little holes in it. I heard it on my way to the store to get a loaf of bread in 1966. It literally stopped me in my tracks. My mouth hung open. It took me awhile to remember what I was doing. I wanted my radio to play more songs like THAT!
Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix Experience
Hey kid! 'who me?' come here! I put down my glass of Hawaiin Punch and my uncle plopped a big heavy pair of KOSS headphones on my head and played this LOUD.
My ears are still ringing.
Jocko Homo (Stiff version) by DEVO
Like a lot of young people in the late seventies, I didn't sleep much.
Especially not after I heard this. It was similar to my Napoleon the XXIV experience. At first I was troubled. "They'll call anything music these days!!!" soon I realized I couldn't stop thinking about it because my idea of Rock and Roll had changed. It had changed a LOT.
O' Superman by Laurie Anderson
The seventies ended and the 80's started with a bang.
This odd number came ha ha ha-ing out at me and my guests and the party just stopped.
Some people hated it but everyone listened in silence til it was over. It was slightly scary but in a beautiful way. Looking back, it was like hearing a song from the future.

Static - Godspeed You Black Emperor: To me, this song is everything that's perfect about music. It got me when I was walking down a street at about three in the morning, pitch black out and raining hard, when all of a sudden I forgot about everything that was happening in my life.
Black Beasts - Adorned Brood: This song sounds like black metal crossed with a nature cd. Starts off like two different songs and then at the end it somehow comes together and sounds perfect. Had an effect on me because it was so unique when I first heard it.
Headup - Deftones: Chino wrote this song for Max Cavalera's son who passed away a year earlier, and when it came out it was special to me because of a death I was dealing with as well.
Cult - Skinny Puppy: Never matters what mood I'm in, this song can always be listened to.
War - Meshuggah: This is my venting song whenever I'm angry.
