Question Avant-Garde Film Scores

Anyone have examples of film scores that they would consider to be of the "avant-garde" variety? I'm actually not very well-versed in soundtracks/film scores, so I'm anxious to hear of some examples...

...I suppose that the film-related works of Paul Schütze, Art Zoyd, Goblin, Phillip Glass, etc. could be considered "avant-garde", but I'd like to find some other specific examples.

Thanks in advance.

how about Cliff Martinez's score for Solaris or the Robert Rich/Lustmord score for the remake of "Stalker"? I know not avant garde, but they are still good.

Works for me! Half the fun of this forum is determining what is Avant-Garde and what's not...

Really, I'm just looking for scores that are unique enough to be considered avant-garde among film scores...

...I mean, we could consider the cartoon scores of Carl Stalling Avant-Garde if we wanted...

That's actually my favorite soundtrack, overall...when Pi first came out and I heard that soundtrack in '99...that's what first got me interested in IDM, etc (( particularly James' "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball"...it's still probably my favorite Aphex Track ))...it's great!

We'll just call that a "Experimental Electronic" soundtrack so it'll apply here.

John Zorn's The Big Gundown is a classic. It's his interpretation of Morricone's music.

There is also Zorn's Filmworks Series. It's up to 13 volumes now.

I completely forgot about Zorn's work!

Nice contribution, Satch!
