Nah man, just look at the monsterous music he was putting out before his death. Both Electric Ladylands, Axis...dude the music is just sublime. Mr. Hendrix is one, if not the most creative, most innovative guitarists in the history of rock music. If he hadn't died, I'm positive the music would continue to blow our minds.

Hendrix is gnarly, gets the vote for sure.

Oh cool! Thanks for noticing friends. It took me long enough. Heck, I think arguing in a few select threads got me to 1000 pretty quick.

Yep, that;s what I've learned while here: You better have a damn good arguement or NDF'll hand you a plate of your own ass, with all the trimmings

Thanks, but I might be a bit overrated though. I never debate to make anyone look bad, just trying to create interesting discussion. Hope no one takes it personally.

This is a tough call for me... When I add songwriting and production technique into the mix (along with guitar style, tone, etc.) I think I have to pick Jimmy Page... But no one would have to convince me that Hendrix is just as great... If I take the top 20 songs from each artist, then Page wins in my book... But really, this is a tough choice...

Strictly as guitar players, I would rather have Hendrix as my lead guitar player... Overall, if I was gonna start a band, I would take Page (Gosh, can you imagine turning away Hendrix from your band, I should be sent to rock music prison for this post)... But that is how I see/hear it...

I assume the parameters of this poll are based on guitar playing, so I guess I will cast my vote for Hendrix,, if the poll was for overall musical talent, I would vote for Page... (the initial post in the thread doesn't make it exactly clear what the parameters are as he says "big guitar God battle", but then later posts "based on songs, style, sound, tone etc.", since he included the word "songs", I assume that meant songwriting skill.. so, I am not 100% clear)...

tough call... but hendrix didn't OD... his death is kind of like cobains there's a really solid logical case and then there are all sorts of theories... with hendrix he was between managers and stressing out over label issues / new albums / legal threats from past managers and a bunch of other things... his drug habit didn't help anything either though... he was getting away from all that stress at one of his girlfriend's houses for a day or two but couldn't really sleep... so one morning he took some sleeping pills and passed out (on his back)... she checked on him at one point and he seemed fine then she went to buy cigarettes... when she came back she noticed he had thrown up and wasn't breathing anymore... ambulance came and took him to the hospital but he never woke up again...

the theories come into play with the ambulance ride... there are rumors that he actually started breathing again en route to the hospital... and his girlfriend claims that 2 nuns had checked on him while the doctors were trying to revive him and came back to tell her that he would be fine... a few minutes later doctors came out to inform her that he was dead...

i also seem to remember a theory about some of his old managers threatening to kill him if he didn't sign contracts with them and other crazy stuff like that...

and didn't page kick a solid drug habit (or the better part of a habit) near the end of led zep's reign?

personally i'm of the opinion that had hendrix lived there would be at least one miles davis / jimi hendrix collaborative album out there today...

page had his own folky blues rock style but whenever zeppelin tried to play different musical styles it came off sounding plastic... their attempts at funk (the crunge) and raeggae (dyer maker) are just too calculated and uptight to really embrace the style...

while there aren't that many recordings of hendrix playing jazzier stuff 'south saturn delta' is a prime example of his ability to adapt to a new musical environment... i only wish i could get the entire session he did with that ensemble as opposed to that one track...

Yeah, I was meaning overall production, band work and such, not just their guitar playing... now that I think baout it I should have put this in the rock section, but, yeah, I was doing an overall compasrisson, not just guitar style, I thought it would get more responses here.

True. I didn't know that much of Hendrix's sorry though so I guess it;s fault on my ignorance too but yes, I don't know what Page kicked, and Jimi was doing lots of cacaine I believe. DId either ever do heroin or other needle drugs?

If you ever come to Seattle, pay a visit to Capitol Hill neighborhood where they have a statue of Hendrix on his knees playing a guitar. Maybe i'll take a pic of it and post someday. Most of his memorabilia is at the Experience Music Project, an interactive rock museum, a paradise for rock fans! Anyways, got back to the debate...

BTW, if you are talking about production, versatility, and all-around talent, then I would have to switch my vote to Page.
