Incredible invention

There's a pub in exeter which is one of the test sites for a revolutionary jukebox....

Why is it revolutionary? It's an mp3 jukebox which connects to an archive of mp3s and you do a search on the track of your choice and it has pretty much 90% of things ever released (on CD).

We listened to Imminent Starvation, Tom Waits and a load of other things then other people took over the jukebox and while there were a load of normally dressed people not a single chart song came out.

This could quite literally revolutionise the music industry. Imagine...

You hear a song in a pub and think.. Ooh that's good and look over at the listing. It will also open the ears of those who don't search for music to new styles and from this the whole scope of music could change..

The radio stations are controlled by the record industry as are MTV etc. This NEVER used to happen and it's why music has stagnated over the last 15 years.

If the internet jukebox takes off and becomes a regular item in a local pub this could change everything.

Plus opening peoples eyes to new music.

Besides, I thought this forum needed something else other than threads saying "who supports p2p" in a myriad different ways..

I believe they're planning some in the US.

If the tracks go back to a repository I'd imagine it can keep a database of how many times a track has been played and sort the royalties out from there.

I wonder who's gonna pay for the expensive internet connection, you'll need a huge downloadcapacity for this.

You don't necessarity need an internet connection.

Say you have a regional server in the area which has the mp3s on. You need a 256k connection to this server. You can use a WAN. Then from the regional server you connect to a central server farm that does the downloading and replicates the mp3s on the regional machines. One internet connection is all you need.

Was it alphabetical or by genre? How far did the genres go? And how did they get 90% of all CD's (I know you weren't being literal) on there? It is an awesome idea, and like ITMS, should see it in Australia by 2020...

You get a top 50 or whatever and then otherwise you do a search like you would on google or whatever to get what you want.
