The Hafler Trio

I've just read an interview in The Wire with Andrew Mackenzie, and it's renewed my interest in his work. The stuff I've heard has been in a very abstract musique concrete style, but I've never heard a fulll album yet. Does anyone know a good place to start, what their best album is, or if it ever makes any sense?

Btw, best wishes to the fella, he's suffering from hepatitis, and can't afford treatment, let's hope he pulls through.

well, the thing with the Trio (being only Mackenzie), it's hard to set a starting point because all the stuff is experimental, I would recommend "all that rises must converge" or perhaps the new one that was done with Autechre. Another artist that's like the hafler trio is Nurse With Wound.

Cheers for the reply, I've tried to find out more on a number of message boards, but there doesn't seem to be many people who know much about them.

Btw, I'm a huge fan of Nurse with Wound, I thought my user name would have given that away.

it should've given it away, but I didn't pay much attention, sorry There's just so much material released by both projects that it's hard to say what to start with...

... not to mention that the releases tend to be a little pricier than other "experimental" acts...

(at least NWW, Current93 and such... mostly on World Serpent...)

I read something on him too, around the time of the Autechre colab. After everyone said there was next to no 'Autechreness' there, I figured it was to help him out, sales wise. Good gesture if true.

yeah because he's been in some shit as of late. I think he's originally from Ireland and since he lives in the UK, they were making a big deal about immigration and shit. Plus, it seems the people from the Touch label basically abandoned him and the medication he needs is some astounding amount of money each week. I feel bad for the guy, truely.

I thought he lived in Iceland, somewhat compounding the problem...
