I seriously doubt they do that... too costly, too time consuming... use a filter (or two) that adds on the pops and clicks via processing of white noise... pretty easy to do... and voila! you have something that basically sounds like a vinyl source.

your suggestion makes a lot of sense, docsquid. but that's the method they used during the making of the second album. I read that from an interview with that guy(forgot his name) from Portishead.

quite redundant if you ask me.

... ah yes... or so they SAY and want you to believe...

... no, seriously, that's pretty cool if they can afford to go that route... perhaps even initially cut a limited number of vinyl copies as a collectors edition or something like that and, before selling those, do the resampling from one of those, perhaps even intentionally scratched and dirtied up a bit... cool if they did something like that or similar... more power to them. I suspect, however, that it would take a pretty keen ear to tell the difference between an actual vinyl record and a filter of some sort that mimicks the vinyl record sound.

Yeah, these days computers is the easy way out. I'm not sure what direction to go in after this album is released I might leave IDM behind entirely, but I don't know.

docsquid, my reaction when I read that interview was "damn, it must be nice to be rich"

I know my ears won't be able to tell the samples being dirt up in computers or taken from dusty vinyls. and my stereo speakers are not that good anyway...

keef, how about picking up kudo?

Have him scribble some nonsensical rambling 'art theory' stuff in eye-strainingly small typeface on the front. This adds allure and makes your project mysterious.

I know this is completely unrelated to this discussion, but I've come to the decision that the term "artfag" is my least favorite slang term to develop in the entire history of language. I've heard it used so often and so casually through so many outlets that I'm beginning to think that anyone who uses the term deserves to be drug out to the front of the "local art college", strapped to an assemblage sculpture depicting the ‘Madonna and Child’, stripped bare and colored in psychedelic tempera paint, bound and gagged and slapped with a boombox tied to his waist blasting '80s synth-pop for a 1-week exhibition...but that's just me.

You're posting on a music forum to discuss an artistic pursuit and yet feel the need to place what can only be interpreted as a derogatory label upon certain people of creative mind, while idolizing others? That seems very odd to me. Also, I just felt like noting how impressed I am with your knowledge of the expressive tendencies of all art students, so much so that I have to say that in 3 years of being an "artfag weirdo" I don't think that I've seen one example of "womb imagery" in student art work...but I guess I'm wrong, you obviously know more about this subject than I. If I didn't know better, I'd say that you have the one track mind...but then that couldn't be accurate, could it?

If you'd like, halcyon days, I'd be happy to do an interpretive ink drawing of you fused with some womb-imagery...

Anyway, end of rant.

Wait a second, hold on now. I take offence to the label of art students as being 'certain people of creative mind'. Nothing could be farther from the truth, imhfouo. Art college is a place for the collective indoctrination of weirdo art-kids (I'll refrain from the term 'artfag', though it is a suitable label for strivings of the art crowd). Institutions which teach art or art theory above the appreciation of high realism (which itself is oft flogged and dismissed by 'greater' 'more creative' art kid minds) are in the service of sculpting the oddball tendeices of outkast youth into a workable refined caricature. Im just suprised that people buy into the fact that art students are 'creative minds' when they are as cliche and cliquishly segmented as a Norman Rockwell painting.

Not to mention the fact that art has become self-consciously derisive and almost as lost as I find myself these days. The typical archetype is usually imitative (i.e. look I fused dadaist elements with the minimalism of the bauhaus -- but its sooooo totally original, or reductionist (i.e. 'this is the color of television... I took hours of programming and developed an algorithm to express the mean average of its content in a singular form' -- meaning that all art is derivitave art). Either way, all of the artstudents that I have ever met were so desperately caught in the struggle for finding relevance that they subverted any real creative tendencies they may have had. Sad story really. Maybe I just met the poseur art kids.

The womb imagery thing was kurt cobain jibe in a techno cloak. A joke in a cloak, jibe.

Evilmatik, you can buy a vinyl cutter for about 4000.00

You probably have to pay 5 times as much for colored vinyl. A friend of mine was looking into investing in a vinyl cutter (Vestax makes a relatively cheap version). It obviously doesnt cut vinyl quickly enough for mass production use, but its good for making your own break records. Besides, who doesnt have 4000 lying around to spend wastefully?
