Greatest Avant-Garde Guitarist

All right, time for the Avant-Garde version of this thread. There are so many Avant-Garde guitarists that it's difficult to keep track of them all, but here are the ones I could think of...feel free to post your "others"...

I was gonna pick up a derek bailey cd the other day, i should now since I know it's on Zorn's Tzadik label. What about Rafael Toral?

Ulmer is pretty cool, but i need to listen to him more and I think I have a kaiser album around here somewhere...

do you think Reinhardt was a bit avant-garde at times? just curious, he had an awkward style, not to mention Lenny Breau's as well...

It is Sonny Sharrock not Sunny!

I guess you got him mixed up with Sunny Murray the free jazz drummer. :P

!!!

Geezzzzzz, I thougth I knew 4% of what you know from your 4% of Geoff
I'm down to 0%. I don't even know one of them

But I have some other names of guitarists who were "Avant-garde" at their time and
still are :
Tarrega : for the classical musicians he was the Chopin of the guitar.

Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian (electric guitar), Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix,
Manitas de Plata Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, ...

All the other great guitarists have been inspired by one of them.
Of course I certainly have missed some other names !

I have copied the list, I'll try to grow up to 1% for the next four weeks.

I only know 4% of Satchmo.

Of course, he is twice as old as I am, so he has a little head start.

A fine list by Seba though, but I'd include some of the avant-garde folk guitarists.

Like John Fahey and Jack Rose.

Oh shit, I've only heard of Keiji Haino.

Would Fennesz ever make a list like this, or does the computer overrule his guitar work?

if he was to strip away all the layers, perhaps, but yes, the processing of multiple sounds incorporated within does overrule, I'd say. Same goes with Christian Kleine, at times.
