What can I say Psychedelic Syd, you have great musical taste!

I only recently heard that the original version of "Lola" had the line "Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like Coca-cola" but Ray Davies had to have it changed because the media didn't like the fact he was promoting Coke in the song.
They had it changed to "cherry cola". The things people get upset about, hey!! lol
I do like "Apeman", too.... I listened to the full version of it the other day and my mother could not believe that they said the dreaded "F-word"* in the song... she was absolutely horrified!!

*Note: "When I look out the window I can't see the sky; This damn air pollution is a-fucking up my eyes" --Apeman

I think the lyric is actually "...a'foggin' up my eyes," but obviously Ray wanted people to think they heard the f-word.

Yeah, you're probably right... Ray liked to get a reaction!!
I checked out a lyrics site and it said "a-fuckin" but I wouldn't think that they'd have said that in their song?? I dunno... it probably was "foggin" but hehe still Mum walked very quickly back out of the room!!!

Then as far as your mom is concerned they DID say "fuckin" which is exactly what Ray wanted our parents to think.

The cd (reissue) of the album "Lola vs. The Powerman....." has the oringinal version of Lola on it where they use the line coca-cola. It's a great pick-up.

that's a really great album.
I don't get the whole "Preservation Act" thing but otherwise, that's a pretty great period for me Kinks wise.

I would highly reccomend any fan of the Kinks to get the album "Lola vs. The Powerman.......". From start to finish it is an excellent work, focusing on the problem in the music industry in the late 60's in England.

Wow, it's really cool to see there are more fans of the Kinks than I thought. I played one of their songs for a girl in my class who had never even heard of them, and the next thing I knew, she went out and bought their "greatest hits" CD!!!

I have to say I actually don't have any of the Kinks albums you people are speaking about, but I have a greatest hits album, unfortunately it's not a thorough version and it's missing songs such as "Apeman". Big disappointment.

But anyway, it's good to see that all of you have good taste in music and are Kinks fans. I'm also impressed with the amount of replies I have received so far. I hope you can keep them coming and maybe even drag a few newies to this thread. It will be interesting to see how many more other Kinks fans we have in RM.
