If it is able to play when i put it in, i can press play and sometimes it will just keep spinning and not play anything, or it will skip the first track and skip parts of the rest of the cd. it's a shitty old player, i tell you!
Are you trying to play "Copy Controlled" CD's? Some older players can't play Copy Controlled CD's!. Otherwise, probably your laser is defected. Try to clean it.

yeah i took it to the store and it's basically fucked. oh, do i just luuuurve appliances which work until the warranty wears off!!
i had one year and suddenly it fucked right up. radio won't keep a station, tapes won't play on it, and the cd player won't play cd's. now that's a handy little invention.

I'd like to a make a point of this...

Unfortuantely, due to the nature of CD player hardware (increasingly so these days with cheaper and cheaper methods of manufacture), CD players will cease to function correctly after a period of time. Nothing can be done to prevent this, and the cheapest optionmore often then not is to replace your CD player periodocally. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but of course, these exceptions will come to people who spend the money outright and get top notch CD players.

I bought a new CD and tape player and radio recently at auction and it has none of the problems the old one had. It is a Sony CD player with two tape decks and a radio. I'll keep the old one too, though. It is still useful.
