John Cage's Williams Mix and Fontana Mix both feature heavy 'sampling' from various sources.

It is likely that the pieces used to compose these early tape experiments would have been copyrighted.

However John Cage never got in trouble for using these sources.

This proves the world has become a greedier place :P

Variations IV used radio broadcasts as chance operations. I think all Cage's performances, live and on tape were presumed to be fair use. With Cage, there was something Frank Zappa called "no commercial potential."
