best chord sequence?

From a songwriter's point of view, what is the best/your favourite chord sequence? This is an area of writing I find hard to be original in.
My favourite is the opening of the Headmaster Ritual by The Smiths, or Bigmouth Strikes Again which goes like this:

C#minor, C#Minor , E , F# , C#Minor , C#Minor , A , B

Classic.

Interesting trivia related to this subject: Irving Berlin, maybe the most successful popular composer of all-time , was only proficient in one key. He had a capo built into his piano!

I suppose one key is all you need. you can always transpose it to different ones after it's written.

D-D11-Am-D-D11-Cmaj-D-D11-Em.

Works better as a pre chorus, but it's a nice progression. Don't bother about playing barres if you're playing it on the guitar. just raise the F# in the D chord to a G. (hope you dont find that patronising.....)
