I've always thought Tom Waits to be Singer/Songwriter material...hardly Jazz...maybe I'm wrong, but...

Nighthawks does feature a stand-up bass.

Hmmm...I guess a lot of Tom Waits' music is Jazz influenced. I always think of him as blues-rock/songwriter (like, the best) and sort of disregard his jazz sensibilities. But they are there. More on his later stuff, though...like Swordfishtrombone, Rain Dogs. The whole New Orleans vibe.

Can Blue Valentine be considered a vocal-jazz album? Why not?

Even better, why not Meshuggah or just include any musician/group that has any form of Jazz influence.
