"The Moth Confesses" by the Neon Philharmonic...Tupper Saussy's "phonographic opera" from 1969. Here's an interesting exerpt by Tupper on the liner notes of the recent Rhino re-edition: "I started thinking shortly after the thing came out that maybe this record was a grand example of camp. I read Susan Sontag's article 'Notes on Camp', and her definition of camp was 'failed seriousness." That quality just kept haunting me every time I heard certain tracks from the album. I'd say 'Hey,that seriousness just doesn't quite make it...it's 'failed seriousness. We got a camp album here.' And I wasn't willing to go around bragging about it,because I thought that was a put-down to call the album camp. I never heard a critic call it that, but I certainly would have said 'bravo' to the one that did."

A lot of musicians can hit the nail and then miss. A lot of Merzbows output is just fucking awful, as is a lot of Stockhausens. David Hasselhoff however is an experimentalist of the highest level and such has always been musically, "looking for freedom". He has succeeded immensely not just in the field of experimental music but also in performance art.

For example the performance piece,"Baywatch Nights", was an excellent example of how if you strip out the elements of girls in bikinis and beach scenes out of an identical programme, "Baywatch", then it instantly becomes worthless. Denoting strongly our vain culture and how we are all controlled more by desire than any other emotion.

I just thought I'd bump this back up...I'm sure someone has heard some sort of experimental music in the past two months that's been dissapointing...so let's have some so we know what to avoid.

I have had this the faulty caress by piquet from Parallel Series on Mute for a few years now. but I never managed to get into this CD. supposedly, this album was made with Protool and sound designer. but for some reason, it never engaged me.

a few of the pieces on anthony braxton's for alto i consider to be terrible failures, particularly for kenny mckenny and for john cage. those are a bit too painful and irritating for me to enjoy (or even sit through) most of the time. i love the rest of the album though

I agree...conceptually, Braxton's brilliant...but I've found that many of his recordings are so unrewarding that to really listen to them in their entirety just seems like wasted time...but he does have his moments.

I thought about it a bit more and don't feel I got my point across as well as I should have.
