Some of my favorites that come to mind:
Soil Bleeds Black
Mediæval Bæbes
Boyd Rice and Friends
Death In June
Current 93
Sol Invictus
Ataraxia
Dead Can Dance
Nærvær
Rondellus
Sibelian
Sopor Aeternus
Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud
By the way, anyone know of any traditional Japanesse bands I should check out? Specificly any that use their lovely shakuhachi?

You'll like Jaune Toujours, I think, mix of folk and jazz... lyrics in Dutch and French... from Brussels... multicultural... mainly accordeon + sax and trumpets...
Others:
Garmarna
Hedningarna
Gjallarhorn
(all Scandinavian)
Ambrozijn
(bub)
Aedo
Olla Vogala
Kadril
(Flemish)

let me see...
Tony Wakeford's material is pretty good as L'orchestre Noir (member of sol invictus)
Tor Lundvall
Steve Roach
Glen Velez (hand drummer)
Muslimgauze (somewhat)
Afro Celt Sound System
The Chieftains (celtic music)
The Legendary Pink Dots (perhaps, I could be wrong)
Bonnie "Prince" Billy (singer/songwriter Will Oldham)
Iron and Wine (slow whispering folk type)
Songs:Ohia
tell me if some of these are wrong...

Bonnie Prince Billy, Iron & Wine and Songs:Ohia are not really the folk she means, I think... Those are more alt.country, singer songwriter idd things, which is called folk in America, sometimes... I think she rather asks for ethnic things, like AfroCelts Anyway I like quite a few from your list

I like their cd Brusk a lot, I also have their last but one, Camping Del Mundo, but I don't really like it, except for the title track...

Ah, I know those, but I wouldn't consider them as folk...well, I don't really know what genre they are
anyway...I'm trying to download some songs, but it's really hard, because most of the bands aren't really well known. I'll try and search as many as possible of the one's you all listed, and give my opinion. If I like them, I'll buy their album
