I'm just saying that there has been a lot of artists that have influnced singers and musicians of today, and in black music especially, Jackson has a greater influence than Presley. Perhaps it is indeed true that the white man would never allow Jackson to be a bigger star than Elvis.

The thing about Quincy Jones is funny because he wouldn't give Jackson credit for co-producing some of the songs on his albums and that may have been where the bitterness came from. Although I think Jones was the guiding influence behind Jackson's talent he didn't want 'Smooth Criminal' to be on the 'Bad' album, showing he wasn't always correct in his assertions of what was best either.
You are a fan of Jackson and that is fine...he is an immensely gifted artist...but when it comes to historical significance, cultural impact, and influence on popular music, Michael Jackson couldn't shine Elvis Presley's blue suede shoes.

I think Michael Jackson makes a pretty formidable comparison in most cases. He has a large body of successful work. His onstage shows are spectacular, and he has been doing this since he was a toddler. BUT Elvis is one of the few guys that he can't eclipse.

As successful as Michael was, he didn't usher in a new era of music, he was influential, but he wasn't nearly as influential as Elvis was. On overall impact alone Elvis is a juggernaut of influence.

Yes, I understand that, and actually agree. I guess the question just depends on who has had the most impact on you musically. Thanks for your further contributions on what has been an interesting debate. I'm sure everyone here agrees that MJ is the best choice to compare to EP musically. They are both legends.

On the occasion of my being on the planet fifty-odd years, and my dubious distinction as senior member on this board, I would like to commend White Noise on this extremely MATURE and well-worded post.

MJMJMJ! I love Michael Jackson, Elvis doesn't do it for me as much, but he is still amazing.
