I really don't understand how anyone could make a claim like that. It's like hating oxygen, food or sleep; it contradicts human nature.

My Dad is real into a lot of bubblegum pop from the 50s 60s and 70s and horrible mainstream country (but also he likes Hank Williams and the real stars of country), but I was surprised to find out he is a Who fan.

I was listening to (unedited) Korn - All in the family once and my grandad complimented the song and said he enjoyed it. I think he was a little too hard of hearing to hear / comprehend the words.
I'm so glad I dont listen to korn anymore.

One time, I was riding in the car with my dad and he started saying he wanted a burned cd full of Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Gin Blossoms. It got kinda weird, but it afterwards seemed like the conversation never occured.
Another weird time was when I was listening to "No Rain" by Blind Melon. My mom said she knew for a fact that it was Yes, which of course was wrong.
After my dad stole my brother's old Save Ferris and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy cd's from my brother, I try to keep my music away from my parents, hoping to God that they don't do the same to my music.

My parents think that all the music I listen to is overblown, self-indulgent crap. (I listen to prog rock, if you couldn't figure that out. )
I do listen to some of the artists that my parents enjoy. I'm a huge fan of Marvin Gaye, the Temptations and the Four Tops. I even saw the Temps and Top in concert together this past summer with my dad.
EDIT: Almost forgot, my mom loved the intro to "Firth of Fifth." That really surprised me.

my parents are both musicians (my dad professionally) so it's kind of hard to impress them, but some of the stuff I've played for them over the years that they've liked includes some Kansas,Yes, Genesis, Rush, Beatles, Todd Rundgren/Utopia, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, and Styx.
Last week I was at my parents' house doing some laundry and played my Paul McCartney - Back In The USA DVD for my mom. She really enjoyed it and knew alot of the songs. I caught her singing along quite a few times. I didn't know she knew alot of the songs she did.
Also, one night last year, I watched one of those seventies soul retrospective shows on PBS with them and my mom especially really enjoyed that. My parents are impressed with good singers and my dad likes some of the proggy keyboard oriented stuff like Yes, Genesis, Kansas, etc. (he's a professional pianist).

My parents liked "Attitude" by the Misfits. To my surprise I must say, because I only played it to annoy them.
