My parents lost interest in music after they had my brothers and sisters (4 in all) especially my mum. She owns 1 cd which is christmas panpipe classics!!!!
But i was watchin tv and she commented that she liked Daniel Beddingfield While he was on tv. I was more than shocked. Better than panpipes. a little at least.

my mum doesn't really like Tom Waits, his voice is too rough I guess... and the music generally too dark...

My mom heard me playing Van Halen's 'Finish What Ya Started', and I was surprised that by the second verse she was humming along, and by the second chorus was singing ''C'mon, baby, finish what ya started! I'm incomplete!'' The Zola thought it weird... but cool. My mom loves CCR, too.

I also had my old man listen to 'Nautical Disaster' by The Tragically Hip, and, though he didn't much like the music, he really thought the lyrics were stellar.

I once played this one Helloween track and my dad said he liked it, now he owns Helloween's album Keeper of the Seven Keys part 1. It just seems a bit strange, previously he only liked classical and stuff like the Beatles, the Doors, CCR.

My mom heard me playing Constantinople by The Residents... and she commented that she really liked it and actually wanted me to play more by the band for her.

My memories of sharing the music of the Residents w/ my parents usually revolve around the throwing of objects, and the use of less than delicate language, on their part.
You're lucky!
I'm sure I've said it before in this thread -- my parents can tolerate about 15% of my music collection, and actually enjoy about 5%.
