well, ithink you can at least agree that Definitely Maybe was the biggest British debut since The Beatles' Please Please Me and bigger than any British debut since.

well, whats bigger? debuted at number one in the UK, it is the fastest selling debut album in UK history, spawned four Top Forty singles [3 Top 15 singles], it combined with [What's The Story] Morning Glory made Oasis the biggest band in the UK if not the world. it launched both Noel and Liam Gallagher into iconic celebrity status in the UK and brought the focus of the rock world back over to Britain for the first time since... idont even know- The Clash? name me a bigger debut, besides the argument for Please Please Me.

no, thats not what we're talking about. Oasis moved more units faster in the UK than anyone ever. The Beatles could have [the population has only risen 5mil since the sixties] they juste didnt. now, The Beatles remained #1 for a record 30weeks until being bumped by their own sophomore record, but they were the fastest selling debut.

if people want to continue sayin that The Beatles' debut was bigger than Oasis, fine. but this originally came from someone suggesting that Definitely Maybe should not make the list of Best Debut Albums, and to say that is completely absurd. luv'm or hatem, Oasis fookin rocked the 90's more than any other British band.

As for the whole Oasis debate, I really think the biggest thing about that band is their egos. Their music is all one big case of "been there, done that". Nothing there that I don't have on 500 other albums in my record collection, done with a lot more passion and love.

OK, I stepped in, I said what I think, and now I'm stepping out.

By the way, my all time fave debut, Are You Experienced?, was mentioned very early in the game.

Do you actually believe half of what you write on these forums? You do make some big statements about bands that just aren't true.

Biggest band in the world? Hardly, they have never been anywhere near being the biggest band in the world.

And i hope you mean when you say 'iconic celebrity status' you mean to the media they are icons, and not everyday people.

I'd like to add i like Oasis, mainly their early stuff, they have put out some quality albums as well as some poor ones, and i do think Noel is a good songwriter and they are a good live band with good stage presence.

The whole Oasis v Blur charty battle we had over here in the 90's that one time which Blur won was brilliant to see unfold.

And i agree with the Rev in regard to their ego's.
