Why yes, there are ALOT of Irish pub bands...some good and most not-so-good. You should most definately do a search for independent music online. There are alot of unknown's in the Celtic rock scene.

Also, I must recommend Sovereignty Records newest: Tommy Byrnes and his debut album Alehouse Insurrections. Celtic Fusion Rock at It's Best! Check out www.tommybyrnes.com or www.sovereigntyrecords.com

Might I also recommend checking out the oldies but goodies: The Bothy Band, Tannahill Weavers, Moving Hearts, etc...these are the REAL players!

I played in a Celtic Rock band ( http://www.killdares.com/ ) the 90's and got burned out on the over-exposure of Celticism in that decade, with River Dance and the Cheiftains, etc.
But I'm still a sucker for raw talent and good song writting. I have followed Kila, and they still amaze me over the bands that just play to the genre. Their singer is one of my favorites and so is their bagpipe player.

I don't know if you can tolerate black metal vocals but Cruachan might interest you. Even if you dislike that vocal style, they still have a lot to offer with their more melodic songs that feature their female singer. Anyway, their recent release Pagan is fantastic and I highly recommend it if you enjoy Irish music with a harder edge. Here are a couple of samples that may give you an idea about their sound: "Ride On" and "Pagan".
