I have to say that I never got a handle on him, though I tried. A real tragic figure. I guess he never got a handle on Phil Ochs either.

I love Phil Ochs. Tape From California is a great album.

I've only recently discovered Phil Ochs, he's not that well remembered over here in Britain. I've only got his first two albums, and a compilation of his later stuff, but to my mind, the man was an absolute genius. "I Ain't Marching Anymore" has made a bigger impression on me than practically anything else I've bought in the last year or so, I wish there was someone like him out there right now, writing intelligent songs about important issues.

Check out David Rovics - Behind the Barricades: The Best of David Rovics. My favorite is "Who Would Jesus Bomb?"
