I know everyone is just dying to hear John Mayer's thoughts on Hendrix.

I couldn't think of a better choice. An original, creative, talented, influential, ground-breaking, guitar virtuoso rock god talking about one of his peers.

John Gayer.

Besides the fact he is doing Hendrix's bio it seems like a pretty good list from Rolling Stone.

Yeah... I'm sick of my Rolling Stone subscription, but this is a very nice, if not predictable, list.

I've always wondered what a 'post-punk' (i.e. including, but not before, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Clash, etc.) list of the top 50 would look like. Is there one out there? Should RM'ers make one? Because by my count, only 9 of the top 50 would fit into a post-punk list. (By my definition, anyway, which is subject to furious debate.)

The list is good... My problem with it is the non-rock artists that appear on it... Influence is one think but a different style of music is something else... Thus, Muddy Waters (while hugely influential to rock) is NOT one of the greatest rock artists in my opinion...

Also, in my mind, Public Enemy is not rock... Rap may be an offshoot of rock, but it is not rock music in my opinion and thus they should not be on the list...

I also don't think Otis Redding deserves to be rated as high as he is...

Most of the others I think are worthy (of those that are actual rock artists)...

There are some who aren't on the list who should be in there (Pink Floyd, Yes, Kinks)...

ONE OTHER HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE LIST: Prince ahead of John Lennon,, what has the world come to???

i think the list was pretty good but i don't see how they put Zeppelin below the Beach Boys, or Little Richard for that matter.

I heartily agree with the Prince over John Lennon thing. What the hell is that all about? I admit I don't get Prince but no matter how good he might be John Lennon is so far above Prince!

Rolling Stone magazine has fallen far since it's inception. I now understand why Hunter S. Thompson when interviewed several years ago was found at his home shooting at a target with Jann Wenner's face on it.
