I like Nirvana very much, though I'd agree with some of the others here that they are not that good to be in the top 5... There is something that bugs me about Black Dog's answers though... Fair enough that he doesn't like Nirvana, but apparently he finds it necessary to say they're superbad because they became succesful... Nirvana was more than a popular "MTV-act"...

i'm too lazy to chop the name calling but whatever... and i can't believe i'm stepping into yet another nirvana debate...
nirvana was a great band and they DO deserve some recognition in the annals of rock history... but they did NOT create a new style of music...
aside from that... i don't think the grateful dead were 'that' great either... aside from giving the hippie 'culture' something to latch onto once the movement reached its apex at the original woodstock i don't think they've really done anything truly significant or remarkable for rock music... their style isn't bad by any means but at the same time it's not wholly innovative or groundbreaking either...

if you're looking at it that way, then is Bob Dylan no rock'n'roll either...
I think the people that made this list up thought rock 'n' roll = rock...

Don't want to get personal, or anything, but sure America's got problems and murder blah blah blah... but their last civil war was 100 odd years ago...

You mean not everyother decade like Ireland? You know I'd love to attend a goverment meeting in Ireland, you feel really secure. Our North and South get along now, but I guess it's cause we're just too thickheaded.
