That's probably the most valid point made so far.

I clear example would be The White Stripes....

I mean... they make me wonder if there's such a thing as not only having no talent, but "minus talent".

Hitting one consecutive quarter note on drums, plucking one string through the whole song doing the same 6 notes all the way through on guitar, and purposely trying to sound bad singing while making big money.......... It makes you want to set Jack White on fire, yet go into the music industry at the same time.

I disagree with both of these.

People at the top of the modern music world have allways had less talent than some of the people below them. The Monkees are the perfect example. To say that somehow all of a sudden your Justin Timberlake's and your Britney Spears' have LESS talent than their predecessors is far too presumptious for me. I mean, hoe do we know they have less talent? BS' songs, to me, are as bad as Madonna's and Cher's, not any worse (but then again I think all pop is rubbish!).

How are the White Stripes talentless? How abou you and me try to come up with some catchy tunes like that and see how far we get. Jack White is actually a pretty good guitarist: even though the actual tableture is simple it's played incredibly well. I know this, after trying to play most of their songs myself (and not getting very far). Meg is, granted, the worst drummer ever ...

Three things wrong.....
Cant think of anything. Music, is what you want to make it. Learn an instrument, and jam in your garage.

I believe that the current music industry is hopeless. For me, there is a big difference between 'a career' and 'an art form'. I'm not so current with what new bands are out there because I don't watch MTV and listen to the radio (it makes me cringe when I do), but I think it's safe to say that most of them are in it for the money and not for the love of the music. Sure, most of them love what they do, but underneath it's still about the money.

If you can play what you truely love and feel passionate about and other people happend to like your music, then kudos to you.

It's about the music damnit!

1) the enormous degree of commercialism.
2) the growing rate of manufacturism.
3) people who think there isnt any good music out there, at least compared to times past.

In general, I would just say radio. Force feeding society what they think is good. All driven by money. Oh, and the RIAA, and those crazy monkey's at typewriters.
