contact microphones

anyone got one of those? I was looking for one of those but I am not sure which one I should get.

they got 3 kinds:

one is for locksmiths opening safes and locks.

another one is for tuning violin, guitar, etc.

the last one is a home-made contact mic with a piezo contact microphone.

anyone got any ideas? thanks.

I dont like the sound of the home made one... or the look of it. All depends on the sort sound you're looking for, and the type of mic you get will reflect this. i.e, if you're after precise mechanical noises from inside machines and stuff, the locksmiths mic would be best.

my wife has a regular microphone but I don't like to use it. but with a contact microphone, I can record some deep vibrations from different places. that could be interesting.

I recently got a crappy mp3 recorder for free, so maybe a contact mic would go well with it.

thanks for the help. I am very interested in the locksmith one as well. we will see.
