i wouldnt say they set the trend for modern style punk. instead, i'd say they are the definition of old hardcore punk. well maybe in a way they did set the trend, but thats just because they were one of the early punk bands.

in terms of the type of music i play (mostly WANT to play) in my band, i would have to say that the misfits, along with some other bands, has had the biggest influence on me. i mean, just listen to "Earth A.D". truly one of the greatest punk albums ever made. the energy, the sound, the in-your-face wall of guitars and danzig's voice is intense! love it!!

Some Kinda Hate is such an awesome song and personal favorite of mine to play. Obviously Danzig was the brain behind most of The Misfits, but I also liked American Psycho quite a bit and most of Famous Of Monsters.

man, it just hit me a few days ago, and i realized that the misfits might be the greatest american punk band ever, if only for like 5 songs. they are like, more UNDERGROUND than PUNK. shit they are fucking geniuses. i can only aspire to be like a tiny fraction of how good they were.

the way i see it is: alot of firstwave punk bands clearly listened to nuggets and went nuts, but the misfits sound like their listened to black sabbath and alice cooper instead, and somehow came up with something alot closer in the spirit - if not in sound - to the original garage bands than the clash or any of those guys did. can you tell how excited i am?

Yes I can. Seems the older you get, and the more you listen to the Misfits, how greater they get. The more you see who they influence now.

Funny thing I have with the misfits is that when I listen 9 times in a row the same song, I like it best the 9th time. Last couple of days I'm really goin wild when I hear London Dungeon. That's one hell of a riff, indeed influenced by (young) Alice Cooper or Black Sabbath. Very 'spooky' sound. Eat this NU-metal faggets! Your horror and goth don't even gets close!!

What's everybody elses fav song?
