Question favorite ska band ?

i would have to say "the selecter" or "the specials" but alot of new ska is also very good like "whitmore", "spunge" , "pama international" , "reel big fish" etc etc what about you , and is old ska or new ska better in your opinion ? ( i think old )

Old ska is better, but new ska gets alot of stick that it really doesent deserve. I'd say the Specials for old (somewhat predictably) and Reel Big Fish for new.

Uh... As much as I love them, The Specials and The Selecter are not "old ska". They're what is called "second revival". It isn't even true ska either - it's ska and rocksteady mixed with punk. The movement was based in the UK and got its start around 1977. The bands started to lose interest in the sound around 1981/82.

Ska - old, original ska - started in Jamaica in 1959. It burned up the island until around 1966, when all the groups started to play lover's rock and rocksteady. From there, reggae was born and the rest is history.

Anyways, my favorite ska band is Justin Hinds & the Dominoes.

P.S. You probably should've called this thread "favorite fake ska band?"

Yeah, it just sucks that all this Reel Big Fish crap is mixed up with true ska music. They really don't belong together at all, know what I'm saying? This is a subforum of World/Folk for Pete's sake!

An excellent group but my favorite group would be Don Drummond's group The Skatalites. They dominated ska.

I'm not impressed by their music. It's dime-a-dozen. The word "crap" may have been a little harsh though (I was just using it to make a point). I respect that you like them, but I'm just not into pseudo-ska-alt-pop, or whatever it is they play. As far as third wave ska revival bands go, give me Hepcat.
