All I have is The Big Gundown and Masada: Live at Sevilla. Both are excellent, but beyond that I can't give you much more advice. The next stuff of his I plan on getting is Spy Vs. Spy: The Music of Ornette Coleman, or if it manages to go down in price, the Complete Naked City Recordings. That set's way overpriced, so I may just buy the individual albums.

If there is one Zorn recording to start with, it would be

John Zorn - The Big Gundown [Expanded Edition]

This is the 2000 reissue of the original version, with 4 new at the time tracks. The "new" tracks don't compare to the original 9 tracks.

Here are some of my several previous posts about John Zorn. These are mostly related to Masada recordings.

Keep in mind, both of the sites at this one haven't been updated since 2003.

If you're bored, you can read Grasshoppa's Roivas' infamous Zorn thread.

Béla Bartók: The 6 String Quartets - Takács Quartet

Satchmo will drop this knowledge once, it's either the above set or the below Julliard Quartet's Historic 1963 set. Anything else, and Satchmo is sending The Shadows and you will be wishing for Leng Tch'e.

Today it was the Takács Quartet. Bartók's and Shostakovich's are the only String Quaret's that can really come close to matching DA KING's.

If that wasn't enough of a hint, does the word Philistines make it any clearer?

George Crumb's Makrokosmos, which those in what the native like to call Nihon, would like Ms. 23 Chromosomes to break of a little somethin' somethin' in 2007.

Beside bothering playing the keyboard, you're supposed to strum and pluck the strings; use glass tumblers and paper to the piano interior; as well as chant, whistle and whisper.
