I just heard the new album by Courtney Love and thought it was pretty good. Over all I used to not like her much but I think that my opinion was colored a bit by the fact that I didn't like her as a person.

Just wondering what people think about her music. Is she just cashing in on being Kurt's wife/widow? Or does she definitely have enough talent to have made it on her own?

cant stand her... either the music or her persona!! she will continue to cash in indefinatly i expect.

I don't think she has that much real talent, at least not enough to sustain a solo career.

I think she's a total skank but her music isn't bad. I actually like some of her stuff. Sometimes it's hard to separate her awful personality from her music cause she really is just disgusting most of the time.

I think she stands on the shoulders of others.
I really don't think "Live Through This" will be as highly regarded in the nano-seconds to come as when it was new.

well, despite the commentary so far, Courtney Love is one of the best female rock perfomers ever. people will say how Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan wrote those Hole albums and while they did hav some collaborative influence its simply not the case. she wrote them- juste cos you think shes a bitch/skank/crackwhore/sorryexcuseforamother doesnt take away the fact that she put out some of the best and/or most influential music of the last decade.

COURTNEY LOVE - AMERICA'S SWEETHEART

Did you miss her? I didn’t, and after listening to America’s Sweetheart I’m reminded of why. Before any Courtney lovers get their back up, I really wanted to write an enthusiastic review for her first album since Hole’s Celebrity Skin 5½ years ago- I just couldn’t do it.

Sure, there are some pretty high highlights [Mono/But Julian, I’m A Little Older Than You] which rock almost as well anything she’s ever done- and that is saying something. But there are more real lows [Hold On To Me/All The Drugs/Life Despite God] that sound as bad as her video for Mono looks. The rest is mediocre at best making a forgettable record overall. Even the highs aren’t anything that Brody Dalle isn’t doing better right now with The Distillers. And with her new dedication to cleaning up her act, there doesn’t seem to be anything to be excited about with the return of Courtney.

So, if you’re looking for your Courtney-rock fix, best bet would be dusting off your old copy of Live Through This or picking up a copy of Coral Fang. Okay, this is the part of the review I wrote where I gotta go and save the day- later.

Chris brought up a good point. Seems everyone seems to judge her more on the way she is personally than by just her music. I wonder why they can (as in another post about the Smashing Pumpkins) think Billy Corgan is a complete ass and really dislike him but still respect his music but no one (except Chris) seems to be able to do that with Courtney? Just a thought.
