Lightbulb Dead Can Dance

I find it hard to label their music , so I thought it would fit best here . Is anybody buying the new box set ? Share your thoughts on D.C.D ...

we have a thread about Dead Can Dance in World/Folk section. I like them. I heard the new box set is about 80 bucks... so pricey!!!! I do want to get their very first album though. I only have one song off of that album on a 4AD compilation called Frontier. love that song.

Maybe Haakon will merge it then .
I can understand the World Folk description . Dead Can Dance differ on each album . Some releases don't sound Folk .

no, they certainly don't sound folky at all. as far as I understand, some of their songs are based on songs from ancient time or some regional folk songs. so that kinda fits world/folk catagory, I guess.

I'm just getting into Dead Can Dance, but I'll probably keep buying their albums until I have them all. Right now I have Aion and I recently ordered Spiritchaser (can't wait).

I've heard their first album a bunch of times, and I have to say it's great. I'm really into that early 4AD sound. It's definitely my next DCD purchase. "Frontier" is one of the best tracks off their debut. If I had to pick their three best songs from that album, it would be "Frontier", "Ocean" and "A Passage In Time".

I hope you will find Spiritchaser enjoyable, Horakhti. I have that album and found it quite boring. I only listened to it like 2 times and haven't listened to it for a while.

which singer's singing do you like better? Brendan or Lisa? I like Lisa's singing much better.

but there is one song which is my absolute favorite with Branden's singing, it is on Labyrinth called How Fortunate A Man Has None. Wind that Shakes the Barley is great too, just Lisa on vocal with no instrument.

anyone has the new Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke CD called Duelity?

oh the box set is not 80 bucks, it is only 56 US dollars with 3 CDs and a DVD. that does sound like a pretty good deal...

Oops! I meant I ordered Into the Labyrinth, not Spiritchaser. I actually based that decision off of your strong recommendation for that album, Evil. I probably will not ever get Spiritchaser if it's that bad.

I definitely like Lisa's singing better. Brendan isn't bad, he's very distinctive and all, but Lisa is not of this earth. Like you said, she can carry an entire song just by herself. Like "Song of the Sibyl" on Aion, which is almost entirely her vocals. It's beautiful. She's a very big reason why I'm suddenly so interested in the group.

So I've been listening to Into the Labyrinth a lot these past few days. Great album. I especially like the first song, "Yulunga (Spirit Dance)". I still like Aion better, but I'm glad I got Labyrinth.
