I don't know if it qualifies as either prog or psych, but I'm listening to Amon Duul's "Collapsing" Lp.

Is Amon Duul worth checking out? I really love Amon Duul II, but I've never heard any of Amon Duul.

Legend has it that the majority of Amon Duul's first few Lp's were recorded during one giant jam session in early 1969. Amon Duul was really a communal collective that embraced the hippie lifestyle and their music was really spontaneous and experimental, kinda like a group of musicans getting together and saying let's try doing this. Four of the collective wanted to create a more mainstream approach to their music and branched off to form Amon Duul II.

If you like Amon Duul II, you should definitely try listening to Amon Duul.
