How is electronic music made?

I was wondering how its produced. Do the artists use computers or keyboards or what?

Turntables, mixers, drum machines, sequencers, talent, some use computer programs to make beats. Im not too versed on the turntable aspect of it, im no DJ, but I presume thats what they use. Did I leave anything out?

Yeah, you can use computer programs, often with a keyboard attached to provide some sort of midi input or something ( I'm not too familiar with the technical terms ).

I think the piss is being taken.
If not, just use Google... type in 'how do you make electronic music' and you shall find what you seek.

Dead simple, 'cause Google is God™...

If you're interested, check out the analogue syntheses tutorial that is sticky around here somewhere, either in this forum or the music production forum.

There is a huge range of stuff used to make electronic music. Keyboards to play notes, make rythems, drum machines which allow you to program loops and patterns of sounds/percussion/beats, synthesizers that let you do just about damn anything, Samplers to get whatever the hell you want, chop it up, rearrange it, change the pitch, anything. All of this is generally put together with a sequencer, generally Cubase, and arranged into the actual song. Also, tons of electronic music is made in conjunction with real instruments. A lot of electronic music is made entirely with computers, programs that emulate what the hardware does, Reason is an example of that. Not as much in the style points department, but a really good song can still be made that way.

Tried to keep it basic. Hope that helps. If not, google will.

yeah that's right.
maybe you could tell us what you really want to know. This request is pretty vague and there is no exact answer.
If your wish is to create electronic music, you should first try with computers because you can get many different stuff for a cheap price. Then you'll be able to know what you need exactly. Don't buy a synthesizer, a turntable and a protools station before you exactly know what you really need. Electronic music can be made (and very well made) with cheap virtual synthesizers and misc softwares. Don't waste time and money before you know what you want to do!

good advice, alternator. I totally agree because there are different softwares for different things.

I personally did a long research(several months) before I put down my money for any softwares. and my research did pay off.

another thing, it is always good to download and try out some of the programs first before spending any money on the full version. different softwares have different functions and looks. you may not like some of them, so it is safe to try them out first.

A free one lots of people use (the sequencer is a bit too basic for my tastes though)
