that's exactly what I meant Sidney.
Personally I really dislike Reason. With Reason I can do absolutely nothing. The factory preset sounds are stupid, the sequencer is much too simple, the interface is ugly and not intuitive at all. To me Reason is a toy.
But for instance, everytime I meet some rappers who come to record in the studio I work in, I learn that they always use Reason.
Am I right, am I wrong? No, I'm just what I am. Reason is not the kind of tool I need, that's all.
What would a pop-rock band do with Reason? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! It's not made for this.
But would a beginner like you (or maybe average, sorry ) do with a full protools station? That would be pure snobbery!
Evilmatik is right, what you have to do is buying a computer then trying every software. Then you'll be able to evaluate your needs.

I've been Mr Logic Audio since about 1998.

I've tried others. Reason for example and it was OK, but too limiting for my tastes.

i wouldn't say that... i mean, if you're creative enough you can do some cool stuff with reason. definitely NOT the tool to use alone, but combined with some other tools it works just fine.

and i've heard few bands who use synths made with reason, and it/them sounds great.

recently i got MAXMSP and i don't get it at ALL. at. all.
and there's no way for me to go "ummm.. i'd like a synth that sounds like that with a little bit of this", then turn on the Reaktor (or reason, for that matter) and bulid it from scratch.

but i *HEART* absynth.

Max/MSP was one of the choices when I did my research on music softwares. but Max/MSP has all other crap that you can purchase besides the main program, and that could be quite costly.

yeah, sure, autechre uses it and you can use Max/MSP to control anything from video installation to awesome sounds but it definitely would make a big dent on my wallet if I buy all the crap for Max/MSP...

so my final choice landed on Reaktor, it is flexible and it fits my purpose, that's to make noise.

no I don't agree and moreover I don't like the way you say it. what does it mean "if you're creative enough"? if you're intelligent enough, you should know that some people don't work just like you. I said that I can do nothing with Reason because it doesn't fit what I'm looking for. The preset sounds are almost all trancey (well that's how they sound to me) and I hate trance. The sampler is pretty cool but the factory presets are crappy, so once again I have no reason to use this one more than any other. Even if I was "creative" I could only produce some music I don't like, so why wasting my time?

Why trying to say that you can do almost any kind of music with Reason since it's false?! Being creative canno't make you forget that Reason is not a multi-purpose tool. I know some people who really like it : these people are in trance (including goa trance) or hip-hop. That's all. If you like this kind of sounds then yes, you can create some tracks with Reason. But if you dislike this kind of sound, like I do, then this software is useless, no matter how creative you are.

If you just want to use the sequencer then why buying Reason? Just buy a sequencer. (replace each word "sequencer" with the word "sampler" to guess what I think about the sampler).

One last thing, even if it's not the most important. Reason compromizes quality to save CPU. That's said in the user's manual.
