A few of my favorite labels are:
-Soul:r
-Defunked
-Tangent
-Full Cycle
Like was said before check out www.breakbeat.co.uk. It's the website for Drum and Bass Arena, There you can listen to streaming live sets, archived studio sets, singles, just about everything you could ever want out of DnB.

Can I chime in?
I'll still be rhymin' when I'm in your hymen
I radiate like it was '88, and I'm searching for my lady mate
I'm a hunter-gatherer, a cunter-latherer
My dandy voice makes the most anti-choice,
granny's panties moist

i dont think looked down upon is the right word, but most dnb heads i know just cant get there heads around snares, its way way way too chaotic for them...
for DnB dont go past Panacea especially the old shit... and the Plug remix of Merzbow is giving me dnb erections

I agree she is great in addition to being a leading DJ on the drum ’n’ bass scene, DJ Rap is a songwriter, vocalist, mixer, and producer, and she runs her own record label, Proper Talent.

how about Soundmurderer's "Wired for Sound"? It's a mixture of Remarc's stuff and a lot of various things throughout the years. Flawless mix of great drum n bass/jungle/ragga rhythms and even has a squarepusher sample!

whatever you do, do check out Ruby's Salt Water Fish [Peshay Mix], that's my absolute favorite dnb song, very emotional and very aggressive. it sounds even better than the original.
no, the mainstream dnb crowd would probably think that those guys are too much for them, too much drilling to their headz damn sissy pants
