Yes it's a flamenco solo developed by Ramon Montoya born 1880, and it led to forms such as the rondena and ultimately to electric guitar solos....which we refer to as 'solos' 'breaks' more often.

A falseta in it's purest form is just an improvised melodic part placed at the end of each vocal line by the flamenco guitarists.

To give a fat spaniard a breather.

You think of falseta today and it really relates to flamenco guitar passages unaccompanied by vocal.

Only odd balls like me who call electric solos falsetas.

Has anyone heard Daryl Stuermers rendition of Firth of Fifth?

He takes the emotion of Hacketts version and adds speed and energy - genius.

Surely that is the most impressive solo performance of all time?

It's played perfectly on Way we walk live - the longs (Genesis)

But he makes a few errors on the live video release.

I'm going with November Rain, just because of the undeniable fact that Slash is one of my favorite guitarists.

I also love the hardly heard of solo on the end of Genesis' The Lamia....If anyone has the Tab or a link I'd love to see it.

...again a solo of pure emotion.....at a time most guitarists were trying to play 12 bar licks as fast as the could Hackett dug in to the senses yet again.

His timing was awe-inspiring, he knew just when to nail that all important bend.

Yeah he's right about that. You can hear a few samples here.
But it beats me why the hell anyone would want to use that term if you can do better with "guitar solo". It won't make you any more understood if you use a term from some specialist discipline and assume everyone else knows what you're talking about.

..... especially if you give yourself away by confusing falseta with falsetto.
(Edit: that was in the other thread)

The backwards guitar solo on Genesis' Ripples - very moving.
