Just started listening to the Beatles
Being 22 and never really listening to the radio growing up, I haven't been exposed to the Beatles. I've had their music for quite some time, but I've been scared to listen to it because of all the hype and the few times I gave songs a listen I tended to not be impressed. So until recently they were on the back-burner of things to really LISTEN to at some point. I knew they were great, but I just figured they weren't for me. But I have to say now that I've really given them a chance... wow they defenitely deserve the position as greatest band of all time (I still like The Who better, but the Beatles were a better band if that's possible). And how lucky am I? I've only got about 40% of their output.... I've still got lots of unknown Beatles music to explore.
So far the best I've heard has been Strawberry Fields and I am the Walrus, not surprising since I tend to like psychedelic stuff.

Yeah, I recently inherited my Mother's enitre vinyl Beatles collection, and I must say I'm impressed. I had heard them before, but I never knew the sheer amount of music they made in their time together.

Wow, I am envious,, to be in such a position of being able to explore Beatles music the first time around.. I remember those days well and they were glorious...
Walrus is also my favorite Beatles song (and maybe my favorite song of all-time)...

And such a short time at that... Makes the whole thing more incredible that they created such a wide body of work in just about 6+ years... AMAZING...

this will enlighten you to new hights, and like a drug you will eventually come bored and search for bigger and "better" things... this is how it always tends to happen.
the evolution of musical taste is a sweet ride!
gotta hear all of the white album and abby road!

Was there a question, you want us to introduce you to more Beatles?
I'd have to agree with you dude on their psychedelic tunes. Walrus is definitely my favorite song by them, the warped psychosis of the tune blew me away the first time I heard it. On the Blue Album, my man Harrison's Something is poignant and gorgeous.
I'm a big fan of good ol George, his tune on Revolver "Taxman" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" are great psych tunes too. Revolver wasn't my favorite album, but there's no doubt how groundbreaking it was when it came out. Their songwriting, harmonies, and experimentation came together to form one of the coolest albums to come out in '66. Favorite song on here's probably "Eleanor Rigby". The ballads on here are stunning, particularly "I'm Only Sleeping", which is pretty psychedelic as well. Revolver was all about breaking away from the poppy teen music they used to play and venturing into darker more experimental things.
Sgt. Pepper's is my all time favorite. The album, dude, is honestly a timeless classic. It revolutionized rock and roll and was a psychedelic phenomenon. Loved the "Inner Groove" conversation and "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" with Georgie on the sitar. This album was funny, witty as hell, and sweetly optimistic and hopeful.
Check out Magical Mystery Tour and two great Harrison psych classics, "Its All Too Much" and "Its Only A Northern Song" while you're at it.

" I Am the Walrus" is my favorite, too. I love how the syllables crash up against each other.

Wow, I didn't realize that so many people around here loved Walrus as I do (this thread has become a Walrus love fest)... I always felt that Walrus was the perfect culmination of John's progression as a songwriter (especially his more experimental tunes from "Tomorrow Never Knows" onto "Strawberry Fields" to "A Day in The Life" and then Walrus)... Some may argue "A Day In The Life" is a better tune and I wouldn't argue against that... But I think Walrus is still ahead of its time... It's heavy, surreal, goofy, complex, and compelling all at the say time...
Also, I just started a poll about Walrus... Here is a link:
